If the companies have the money to purchase expensive wireless gear, they should have the money to hire a professional services team to install it and configure it. If they don't want to pay to have someone put it in or at least advise and assist, they probably shouldn't be dipping their feet the W...

Or perhaps make it an open (or secured, whichever) wireless network with access to anything else provided only through a VPN. Relatively easy to implement and without the cost (though also missing some of the mobility benefits) of your suggestion....

They probably did, but a lot of 'professionals' don't know how to configure it. I wouldn't wanna feed al the consultants that dont know what they're doing. How many companies have a firewall installe...

I bet part of what they were seeing were Honeypots.

I bet a lot of the Access Points were unauthorized.

A lot of the APs were probably not in financial companies in the financial districts - but rather belonged to small businesses and other entities....

I'll buy the unauthorized AP argument, but not many large financial entities in NYC share office space with smaller companies, due to the cost of a lease in that area. I'm pretty signal strength derived from a directional antenna will give you a pretty good idea of where the signal is coming from. A...

The thing that they neglect to understand is that major companies offer unsecure wireless for convenience of their guests.

Now if they were able to access the company's intranet, thats a different story. ...
