This is a very nice article but there are dozens of
similar articles in circulation. To fight the DMCA
and other unpleasant legal hiccups the public should
just boycott Adobe for a while ( personally I rather
boycott the big music labels...) and see just how
well they stand up to large monetary...

This is an easy problem to fix. If consumers do not buy these idiotically protected products, the companies will either go out of business, never try to use the draconian measure to "protect" their work (by the way companies do have valid concerns), or work to get this law revised.

Wouldn't carnivore also be covered? Assuming your email was copyrighted (normally is) and password protected (normally is).
And isn't there a law passed in 2000 that prohibites the FBI from using unethical/illegal methods to collect data....

The software was posted on a US-based server (better bandwidth) and priced in USD (no currency conversion issues). A not entirely nebulous indication of intent.
And it -- the software -- is still out there on the web. As are books that have been processed by it. Themselves illegally posted.

Skylarov was present in the Court Room and available to testify but the prosecution was allowed to play his (edited) video taped testimony instead thus denying the defence an opportunity to cross-examine?
