I pretty much agree with that. All major IM software programs have the ability to log conversations. Last time I checked, ICQ was the only one where logging was enabled by default.

Copyright infringement in RAM

I've seen the argument that the copy in RAM made by routers and even things like playback software should be treated as a permanent copy. People like the recording industry argue this in order to claim copyright control over these "copies", even though the "copy" is temporary, and only a small propo...

As a non-american it made me think what the real crime here was? Since the "14-years old girl" wasn't really 14 what exactly made it illegal?
If a man had sex with a woman (30 years old) who says she's 14, is it illegal?

a court requires specifics in order to issues wiretapping (or any other really) warents. Therefore for this more forward there would have to be a specific investigation involving the person that was being recorded.

By default, everyone should be aware that anything you type in an instant message can be copied and/or logged based on the person(s) options you are chatting with. The entrapment issue is a different subject matter....

The AOL software allows for session logging, which allows for IM logging as well, and Chat room Logging, which logs everything in a chat room, but not the Instant messages. You can turn both on in the AOL Software, and log the entire AOL session, emails read, IM's, chats, boards read, etc.

Hmm. My ISP's WWW counter logged 70 references to my wife's page on the NH wiretapping statute. Most such references include the referring URL, so I went and read Mark Rasch's article.

It gets even more muddied when you consider third party clients like Trillian and GAIM that allow one to connect to multiple chat services simultaneously, overriding the normal default behavior of the original proprietary client. In other words, even if AOL IM doesn't have logging by default, Trill...

You could argue that a person chatting directly to you is already in consent.
There is no way to receive a message without it being recorded electronically in some fasion.
Sending a message in a public chat room means you consent to everyone having a record of that conversation.

Laws are made for people to follow them.
Like somebody already said: obtain a warrant and everything is OK.
Or was this some bounty hunter (wild west ?) setting up a honeypot ? If the conversation is all there was, where'd be the crime ?
I am a black-skinned, Chinese young baby-girl of 2 year...

Yes, but how is a minor defined? Is a minor who claims to be of the age of majority still a minor? Is this different than the due d...
