My personal favourite piece of malware of all time was nimda. Cast your mind back to 2001, not long after Code Red/Blue/Red II ete, to a time when worms also propogated from IIS server to IIS server.

I'll second Nimda. Yes, others have since had more infection methods, but nothing was a novel or surprising as Nimda "back in the day".

My runner up has to be SQL Slammer. It was just, for lack of a better term, elegant. Tiny, UDP-based, blazing fast, and murder on network gear. On a fairly...

Using an uncommon web browser is fine until everyone else jumps on the bandwagon.

If we are going to ask our Aunt Ferns to use a non-IE browser then perhaps it's time to evaluate the others. Firefox is just too damned popular....

My favourite 'virus' has to be the one from the guys in Africa who say they will give you a share of millions if you give them your credit card details. People actually did and someone who went to Nigeria was ripped off at the airport no less...scary!...
