Great article, thank you Jeff H. for emailing it to me(even though your email title was somewhat misleading). I am not going to advocate the Patriot Act or any other measures taken by the government to "protect it's citizens", I just would like everyone to look at this issue from the other prospect...

The government does not "do things to the best of it's ability". It does whatever it damn well pleases, and that usually involves doing whatever will most directly benefit whoever happens to be in charger of a particular part of it. This often is based on getting re-elected, so...

Great story, but some assumptions are old and no longer accurate. For example, the assumption that fingerprint scanners are easily fooled. This points to a 2002 article citing one man's attempt to fool an unamed group of scanners. I doubt his gummi bear trick would work against the newer generation ...
