I don't get mad too easily, but there's one thing guaranteed to really get me steaming, and that's when someone is lying to me. Right now I'm feeling lied to, and while I could be wrong, I don't think I am. Worse, I don't think I'm the only one who's the victim here. I think virtually all of you are having your chains yanked as well.

Scott,
I understand your pain and frustration, but it's obvious that you (and many others) do not fully understand the adware/spyware landscape. There is active and evolving legislation (in California and at the Federal level) aimed at defining, controlling and regulating legitamite adware compa...

I am a bit surprised with your rationale. You can not justify what M$ or these anti-spyware companies are doing by pointing to any legislations. Who says all legislations are for public good and no politics involved.
There's anough lobbying done by the biggest companies to twist just about anythi...

What a load of bull. I am speaking as someone who has to deal with friends/relatives that have been infected with Gain's MALWARE (that's what it is, plain and simple).

I can understand your frustration Scott. However you have to keep in mind that microsoft is not some girlfriend you can talk into treating you better. We?re talking about a multi billion dollar company. They don?t care about you or any other user. All they care about is their bottom line.

Scott - Although it does not directly address your issue, From now on, you should be recommending Sunbelt's CounterSpy instead of MS Antispyware. They share a common origin, but there is a substantial difference in the way they perform. CounterSpy is not free - costs about $20, but worth it. I remov...

Gives new meaning to the phrase "Sleeping with the enemy". MS always operates under the shroud of secrecy, probably so it can back out of embarrassing situations like the Claria acquisition in response to the public outcry.

I have been a Microsoft user and administrator for a number of years and honestly, even the thought of a purchase of this sleezy, underhanded company, makes me furious. I can't agree more that MS, making these types of anouncement WILL lose more people to other operating systems or boycott computin...

I think this article has good points. That said I've followed M$ long enough to know that they are not afraid to use there money to gain tactical advantages.
Claria is the preparing for a legal/technical battle. It looks like they may be perfectly legal in there annoying/ installs. My point is t...

How about Microsoft buy Claria and shut them down?

So if buying spyware companies is bad, how about buying them and shutting htem down immediately. That way MS pays for their mistakes, and we get fewer (successful) spyware companies software on out machines - or maybe that would just encourage huge numbers of new spyware companies to spring up in th...

I would doubt that. If the motive was to shutdown Claria after an acquisition, that essentially presents a $500 million reward for the company that can develop the sleaziest spyware.
That's a tough offer to pass up.
Besides, that wouldn't stop the Claria developers from doing it again. (Microsof...

Microsoft has had never intention regarding the computer industry that to own it, lock stock and barrel. I thought you could all use an update.
It is time to give Claria a break.
Claria changed from GATOR to get into the web personalization space. Their GAIN system was incrementally decomissioned through to Oct. 2006. They are no longer in the spyware business. Claria uses a lot of the original backe...
