I'm not a profound DNS expert... But it's so difficult place more root servers around the world? And who's will warrant that, if USA go to war against, for example, Brazil (from where I am), they will not undermine ".br" from root servers?

Okay, I'm with you that China, Myanmar or Saudi Arabia a...

"the Bush administration has chosen to act alone over and over again, in both war and peace"??

Your reasoning is almost as bad as your politics. 35 Countries joined the United States in teaching Iraq and the UN what "serious consequences" are. A lesson Kofi's spineless, corrupt bureaucrats wer...

A DNS server can use whatever tree it is configured with to resolve addresses - modifying a server to use multiple trees isn't a big deal. Conflict resolution is a bit more interesting, but ,...

The development of the Internet was led by Dr. Lawrence G. Roberts http://www.ziplink.net/~lroberts/ while he was working for the U.S. government at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Dr. Paul V. Mockapetris and Jon Postel are credited with inventing/creating the Domain Name Sys...

Amen! It's essentially our toy, and we let everyone else play with it. But if you don't like our rules or the way we manage what is essentially our creation, then we may just take our toy and go home. If they want to use our network, then they are going to have to play by our rules....

I find myself getting more and more annoyed at the way Scott Granneman rails against all things corporate (Microsoft, EBay, Cisco, etc.), praises all things open-source (pretty much without exception) and has now decided to move into the political arena lecturing us all on the "self-evident" shortco...

Letting the UN or EU control the internet would be distasterous to freedom of speech and the freedom and future of the internet.

The UN appoints African leaders guilty of genocide and ethnic clensing to such roles as "UN Human Rights Group". They appoint Iranians to the council of atomic energy. ...

OK, so the domain name becomes less trustworthy depending on who you use for your root server. --But what about those who use numbered IP addresses? ...

There is a very obvious and meaningful answer to this.

The US should stay in control of the DNS servers and IP addressing, hands down. But why? Not only because it was the US government that created ARPA (which in turn, created the internet), because I could see a switch if for some reason we we...
