Overall good review...not sure why you think "Europeans are subsidising Americans by $400 on every copy they buy" perhaps its because the EU is such a pain in the butt to MS they decided to recoup some legal fees on the EU users??? instead of Europeans paying for my copy? Or maybe my the issue is w...

Maybe its just Microsoft/Amazon think they can screw over EU customers as Americans seem so obsssed with sueing over the slightest thing? Who can tell!
In any case a man as educated as Bill should really know the conversion rate typically means £1 to $1.6-$2, I barely know any american business peo...

Hello Thomas, i must say, its a well written review (in English sense) but its not technically correct in some parts. Here are my comments of your post:
1. The start menu has definately improved, i switched on classic after reading your article, switched it right back. I think MS did a decent job...

Regarding point 3: you need to "Change the way Security Center alerts me" first before you turn off/disable the Security Center service, if you don't want the little red shield icon to bug you when Security Center is disabled. I do not personally condone this action, I would much rather see users ke...

I recommend waiting until at least SP1 before transitioning from Windows XP/SP2 to Vista.
Additionally, I read an analysis of a benchmark comparison between XP and Vista, and guess what? XP is actually better for gaming!

Thats because of crappy nVidia and ATI driver support. Same with the Creative Sound Card he described in the article, Creative doesn't have working drivers out yet....

NVIDIA's beta drivers (100.xx) appear to perform a lot better, the CS:S Video Stress Test was 15x faster when running at 2560x1600 with the new beta drivers. They appeared online at the end of January. I believe ATI have been pretty good with Vista driver support, although I haven't personally tried...

Personally I had absolutely no trouble instaling Vista Home Premium. Nor have I had any whatsoever issues with drivers. The security centre is quite annoying however and I have had some issues with running Azureus. Tracking fails randomly. Media extender with my 360 will play 2 songs and then pops u...

I agree that the price discrepancies are scandalous. However, what would the consequence be for a European end-user buying direct from a U.S. source? I realise that European intermediaries would lose out, and that there may be some currency exchange loss; support calls, if required, may also cost ...

You might get stung for import duty/VAT if the customs service in your country are good at what they do, but beyond that I don't see anything that would prevent you from using it.
I also would like to second the comments about Creative's drivers being crappy.

This article has nothing to security and I doubt this fat guy is qualified to make the following claim:
"I won't even begin to detail the security and privacy issues in Vista, as they are meat for an entire article...which is coming soon."
I think this translates to "I don't really know much a...

I agree. Oddly, this author does not appear to be very familiar with windows computers. I dont see why:

The biggest reason xp is better for gaming than vista is direct x. Windows runs DX10 and emulates DX9. They did the same tyoe of thing on 360. Blows too 'cuz alot of game manufacterers, blizzard being one, have no intention on patching current popular games, WoW, to make it run.

I remember buying computers in the past costing way less money and running far more efficiently. I also recalled getting Printed Tutorials, Manuals and Software CDs with my purchase. Now when you buy a PC they just give you the computer.
