Barnaby Jack developed a method for exploiting certain NULL pointer dereferences on the ARM and XScale architectures (and likely PowerPC). This method affects a lot of devices since most mobile phones and PDA are ARM based, and high-end routers often use the XScale architecture.

Just to check; I think most of us who are writing userland code for Linux on ARM will not be affected because our code won't be running in SVC mode. Is that the case?...

Jamie - Priv Escalation from userland only complicates exploitation. An embedded device is a computer. All the same concepts that apply to hacking cpu's apply to embedded devices. ...
