CERT was late on this. CERT is often late and apparently pretty cautious before posting warnings anyway. I'm told they aren't well funded and are understaffed. IF that's true someone needs to make a commitment and fund them sufficiently or simply disband CERT since they certainly aren't timely enoug...

I do security work for a living and know better than to run without a virus checker but... An "upgrade to WIN2K left me without a scanner for a short period of time. During that time some dork sent a message to my HotMail account that contained this bug. Normally I find viruses somwhat entertaining ...

I think their is some onus for ISP's and hosting providers to establish a mechanism for scanning viruses as they pass through their servers, some do this anyway. It won't stop the viruses from getting out but it sure would help to stop them from spreading so far....

Oddly enough, I was E-mailing some resume info to a job contact in Japan and I received two or three replies with attached documents.

Of course they were all infected with the BadTrans virus and keystroke logger. I had to call over and tell them that not only were there infected systems mailing ...
