The portsentry project has not had an update since 2003. http://sourceforge.net/projects/sentrytools/

Are there any alternatives to portsentry these days?...

Not updated doesn't mean dead, a project might not get updated because there isn't any need if it works. As portsentry can take most settings in its conf file, such as specific command choice on how to block hosts, it doesn't even need an update for new/changed firewalls. I'll stick with it :)...

I does what it does. No need to update every six months. Don't rely on any one method of protection.

Look around most major distros still use it, patches are provide by the individual distros. Cisco owns Psion but they don't own the code. Do you want to be a maintainer?...
