At this point in time, ToneLoc is more of a historical curiosity than an effective utility. Few telephone modem servers are in operation anymore, and those that are are rarely interesting. The modern analogue to ToneLoc would be a port scanner, like nmap et al.

ToneLoc was used back when programmers had to actually think about their code, it wasn't cleaned up by the compiler/OS...back when code was slim and the apps were fast... It didn't take a computer that could run a space shuttle to load a message viewer (pick any M$ app). :S...
