MacPork scans over 130 vulnerabilities and retrieve a passwd file in 45 differents manners. Gatekeeper Antivirus Added 2001-10-22 A small program to keep your Mac (nearly) safe from any incoming viruses. Development stopped in 1993 when the author, accepted a new job. Even so, Gatekeeper is still a valuable asset for Macintosh users wishing to ward off viruses. Disinfectant Added 2001-10-22 One of the best (and free) programs for preventing and 'curing' your Mac from viral 'infections'. Worm Guard Added 2001-10-22 Guard against the new Mac Autostart virus programs. Guardbot Added 2001-10-22 Guardbot encrypts HTML pages with DES encryption. The encrypted pages can be viewed directly in a web browser. The Guardbot protected page generates a password prompt, and the page is decrypted with the included Java applet. Guardbot can be used for password protecting web sites, encrypting html documents for secure transport, etc snort2html Added 2001-10-22 snort2html converts Snort Intrusion Detection System logs into HTML. LinearC Added 2001-10-22 KPL, or Knowledge Propulsion Laboratory, has opened beta testing for LinearC, a privacy-protecting filtering proxy. LinearC was first announced at Toorcon Security Expo in a talk by KPL's Chief Scientist. Privacy vulnerabilities relating to the :CueCat, images loaded through FTP and others are taken care of. In addition, cookies are stored on the proxy and easily expired or deleted. MagicKey for PPC Added 2001-10-22 MagicKey is an appletalk brute force password cracker. Kerberos: The Network Authentication Protocol Added 2001-10-22 Kerberos is a network authentication protocol. It is designed to provide strong authentication for client/server applications by using secret-key cryptography. A free implementation of this protocol is available from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Kerberos is available in many commercial products as well. The Internet is an insecure place. Many of the protocols used in the Internet do not provide any security. Tools to "sniff" passwords off of the network are in common use by systems crackers. Thus, applications which send an unencrypted a password over the network are extremely vulnerable. Worse yet, other client/server applications rely on the client program to be "honest" about the identity of the user who is using it. Other applications rely on the client to restrict its activities to those which it is allowed to do, with no other enforcement by the server. SPAR - Show Process Accounting Records Added 2001-10-22 SPAR is used to select records from a UNIX process accounting file. It is usually faster than most 'lastcomm's and significantly more flexible and powerful: Timings on SunOS 5.3, with a 2.6MB process accounting file (don't even think about using lastcomm with this on SunOS 4.x and lots of accounts, it might finish next week): Print all records (60,000+) output to /dev/null: spar-1.2: 28.34 seconds (user+system) lastcomm: 45.25 seconds Print all records for a busy user (root; 53,000+ records): spar-1.2: 23.31 seconds lastcomm: 36.88 seconds Print all records for a specific (moderately active) user (3,500+ records): spar-1.2: 2.14 seconds lastcomm: 8.01 seconds Print all records for a basically idle user (no records): spar-1.2: 0.52 seconds lastcomm: 5.62 seconds Browse by category |
