Unlike traditional caching software, Squid handles all requests in a single, non-blocking, I/O-driven process. Squid keeps meta data and especially hot objects cached in RAM, caches DNS lookups, supports non-blocking DNS lookups, and implements negative caching of failed requests. Squid supports SSL, extensive access controls, and full request logging. By using the lightweight Internet Cache Protocol, Squid caches can be arranged in a hierarchy or mesh for additional bandwidth savings. Squid consists of a main server program squid, a Domain Name System lookup program dnsserver, some optional programs for rewriting requests and performing authentication, and some management and client tools. When squid starts up, it spawns a configurable number of dns server processes, each of which can perform a single, blocking Domain Name System (DNS) lookup. This reduces the amount of time the cache waits for DNS lookups. AIDE (Advanced Intrusion Detection Environment) Added 2002-02-11 AIDE (Advanced Intrusion Detection Environment) is a free replacement for Tripwire(tm). It generates a database that can be used to check the integrity of files on server. It uses regular expressions for determening which files get added to the database. You can use several message digest algorithms to ensure that the files have not been tampered with. IIP (Invisible IRC Project) Added 2002-02-05 Invisible Irc Project's IIP software is the first secure and anonymous Instant Messenging system utilizing the IRC protocol. This is a 3-tier crypto-network design that protects the users and servers from each other, and is compatible with all IRC clients seemlessly. Utilizing Diffie-Hellman Key Exchange Protocol, and 128 bit Blowfish session encryption, this is the tool for secure, private, communication between users. libdnet Added 2002-01-28 libdnet provides a simplified, portable interface to several low-level networking routines, including network address manipulation, kernel arp(4) cache and route(4) table lookup and manipulation, network firewalling, network interface lookup and manipulation, and raw IP packet and Ethernet frame transmission. Arpwatch Added 2002-01-25 Arpwatch is a tool that monitors ethernet activity and keeps a database of ethernet/ip address pairings. It also reports certain changes via email. Arpwatch uses libpcap, a system-independent interface for user-level packet capture. Before building tcpdump, you must first retrieve and build libpcap, also from LBL, in: ftp://ftp.ee.lbl.gov/libpcap-*.tar.Z. fsh Added 2001-12-27 fsh uses lsh or ssh to establish a secure tunnel to the remote system. This takes as long as a normal connection establishment, but once the tunnel is established, fsh can reuse it to start new sessions on the remote system almost instantaneously. You get the security of ssh and the speed of rsh. NOCOL Added 2001-12-10 NOCOL (Network Operation Center On-Line) is a network monitoring package that runs on Unix platforms. It can monitor various network variables such as ICMP or RPC reachability, nameservers, ethernet load, port reachability, host performance, SNMP traps, modem line usage, appletalk & novell routes and services, BGP peers, etc. The software is extensible and new monitors can be added easily. Swatch Added 2001-11-09 Swatch was originally written to actively monitor messages as they were written to a log file via the UNIX syslog utility. It has multiple methods of alarming, both visually and by triggering events. The perfect tools for a master loghost. It is known to work flawlessly on Linux (RH5), BSDI, and Solaris 2.6 (patched). Cgi Scanner Added 2001-11-05 Multi threaded cgi scanner. It has rulesets and more than 2500 cgi script checks. DBG Added 2001-10-29 DBG is full-featured native PHP debugger. DBG makes it easy to discover problems and bugs in a PHP script. It has the ability to back-track errors, and it shows local variables and parameters which have been passed to all nested function calls at any point of execution. Among other things, DBG allows you to execute script in a step-by-step manner, set breakpoints, evaluate expressions, and watch variables. Browse by category |
