Project ifchk
Added 2003-10-01
by noorg
Ifchk is a network interface promiscuous mode detection tool that reports on the operational state of all configured interfaces present on the system. In addition, it will disable those interfaces found to be promiscuous if told to do so. Per-interface statistics can also be displayed, allowing administrators to perform traffic trend analysis, which could be an aid in the identification of possible inconsistencies or spikes in network traffic volume that may warrant further investigation.

Tiny SHell
Added 2003-09-12
by Christophe Devine
Tiny SHell is a lightweight client/server clone of the standard remote shell tools (rlogin, telnet, ssh, etc.). It provides remote shell execution and file transfers. It is 8-bit clean, has full support for pseudo-terminal pairs (pty/tty), and uses simple xor encryption. Most Unix platforms are currently supported (Linux, BSD, OSF, SunOS, and IRIX).

The GNU Privacy Guard
Added 2003-08-26
by Werner Koch
GnuPG (the GNU Privacy Guard) is GNU's tool for secure communication and data storage. It can be used to encrypt data and to create digital signatures. It includes an advanced key management facility and is compliant with the proposed OpenPGP Internet standard as described in RFC2440. As such, it is meant to be compatible with PGP from NAI, Inc. Because it does not use any patented algorithms, it can be used without any restrictions.

ngrep
Added 2003-08-11
by Jordan Ritter
ngrep strives to provide most of GNU grep's common features, applying them to the network layer. ngrep a pcap-aware tool that will allow you to specify extended regular expressions to match against data payloads of packets. It currently recognizes TCP and UDP across ethernet, ppp and slip interfaces, and understands bpf filter logic in the same fashion as more common packet sniffing tools like tcpdump and snoop.

Dante
Added 2003-07-31
by Inferno Nettverk A/S, info@inet.no
Dante is a free implementation of the proxy protocols socks version 4, socks version 5 (rfc1928), and msproxy. It can be used as a firewall between networks. The package consists of two parts, a socks server and a proxy client which supports socks, msproxy, and HTTP proxies. Commercial support is available.

Monitoring Application for Resources and Servers
Added 2003-06-16
by Brian H. Trammell Ben Parrot
MARS is a host based system monitoring tool. It contains a distributed agent, SPOT, which is placed on each host. The MARS server can then obtain information about each of the machines the agent is running on, including status, load information, disk activity and memory information. MARS is Java based, and should run on any Unix supporting Java, as well as Microsoft Windows products.

PlexCrypt
Added 2003-02-20
by plexobject
PlexCrypt protects documents and folders via PKI-based encryption using secured algorithms such as AES, Blowfish, CAST, DES, ElGamal, IDEA, IES, RC4, RC6, RSA, Rijndael, Serpent Skipjack, Twofish, etc. It allows users to encrypt multiple files and folders automatically. PlexCrypt allows users to digital sign documents and folders and use that signature to verify that original document has not been maliciously or accidently altered. It supports MD5WithRSAEncryption, SHA1WithRSA/ISO9796-2, MD2WithRSAEncryption, RIPEMD160WithRSAEncryption, SHA1WithRSAEncryption, RIPEMD160WithRSAEncryption, MD5WithRSA/ISO9796-2, RIPEMD160WithRSA/ISO9796-2, RIPEMD160WithRSA/ISO9796-2 algorithms for digital signatures. PlexCrypt also allows users to archive a set of files and folders in the ZIP format and extract them later. In addition, it allows users to create and manage digital certificates and key-pairs for encryption and digital signatures.

Secure Cryptographic Instant Messaging
Added 2002-08-07
by The Project SCIM team
The Project SCIM application allows you to send Encrypted Instant Messages to your friends and other contacts. The software is free for non-commercial users and contains a load of cool features.

netcat (unix)
Added 2002-05-09
by Hobbit
Netcat is a simple Unix utility which reads and writes data across network connections, using TCP or UDP protocol. It is designed to be a reliable "back-end" tool that can be used directly or easily driven by other programs and scripts. At the same time, it is a feature-rich network debugging and exploration tool, since it can create almost any kind of connection you would need and has several interesting built-in capabilities. Perhaps some equivalent to netcat, or "nc" should have been written and distributed ten years earlier as another one of those cryptic but fundamental Unix tools that we all use daily without even thinking about it.

IP Filter
Added 2002-05-01
by ondruska
IP Filter is a TCP/IP packet filter, suitable for use in a firewall environment. To use, it can either be used as a loadable kernel module or incorporated into your UNIX kernel; use as a loadable kernel module where possible is highly recommended. Scripts are provided to install and patch system files, as required.
