Primarily used for Network Management, this application can be used to accomplish a variety of tasks related to logging and alerting such as listening for SNMP traps and logging to a file or sending notification to Netcool (a la "trapd probe"), reading a log file for alerts and sending notification via e-mail, parsing syslogs and sending notifications to Netcool (a la "syslog probe"), etc. Looper can also be used as an ad-hoc Netcool probe or Gateway. The README file includes configuration information for procmail to help fight spam. Security is already a full time job in any network, and the burden of monitoring the reports from multiple programs across dozens of servers can result in information overload. The human mind can only process so much data at any given time before it simply becomes too much to analyze. Demarc PureSecure centralizes the reporting and analysis for the entire network which allows you to more easily weed out the important data from the superfluous background noise, thereby targeting your efforts where they really belong. FCheck Added 2002-07-31 FCHECK is a very stable PERL script written to generate and comparatively monitor a UNIX system against its baseline for any file alterations and report them through syslog, console, or any log monitoring interface. Monitoring events can be done in as little as one minute intervals if a system's drive space is small enough, making it very difficult to circumvent. This is a freely-available open-source alternative to 'tripwire' that is time tested, and is easier to configure and use. Roxy Proxy Added 2002-06-24 roxy proxy is a Web proxy load balancer. it is a "proxy for proxies" that load-balances incoming requests between proxy servers, detects faults, and measures the performance of its proxy servers. pace-check Added 2002-06-17 Pace Check is a utility that searches through system logs and finds cases where someone has tried to gain access to your server (non-legit), then it saves them to a log, mails them to you, or sends them to stdout. It supports http, ftp, and others. netcat (unix) Added 2002-05-09 Netcat is a simple Unix utility which reads and writes data across network connections, using TCP or UDP protocol. It is designed to be a reliable "back-end" tool that can be used directly or easily driven by other programs and scripts. At the same time, it is a feature-rich network debugging and exploration tool, since it can create almost any kind of connection you would need and has several interesting built-in capabilities. Perhaps some equivalent to netcat, or "nc" should have been written and distributed ten years earlier as another one of those cryptic but fundamental Unix tools that we all use daily without even thinking about it. Trophie Added 2002-04-29 Trophie is a daemon which uses libvsapi library from TrendMicro, an antivirus vendor. On startup, Trophie initializes VSAPI, loads virus patterns into memory, opens a local Unix domain socket, waits for someone to connect, and instructs it which path to scan. Since the database is loaded in RAM, scanning is very fast.
