For example, you can publish a document without permitting users to print it. The button to print the file will be disabled in the Acrobat Reader application. It can be used as a batch application to set permissions on a large group of PDF files, or as a filter in a Unix pipeline, or within a CGI application. Only binary executables are distributed, but the original Perl source code may be requested. Shell Intrusion Detection Added 2003-06-09 SID is a Shell Intrusion Detection system. The kernel part plugs into a terminal-processing subsystem and logs hashed terminal lines. The user part reads log entries (hashes), consults a list of allowed entries, and takes appropriate action upon unexpected log entries. LFT Added 2003-05-22 LFT (formerly FFT) is an alternative traceroute program for displaying the route packets take to an IP network host/socket. Unlike Van Jacobson's traceroute, which is available on almost every platform today, LFT uses TCP in order to elicit ICMP TIME_EXCEEDEDs or other IP route data. As a result, LFT often executes much faster and sees behind some configurations of firewalls. Its stateful engine lets the user know when it encounters a stateful firewall or other interesting conditions. It also does AS number and netblock name lookups en route. Most importantly, LFT can trace specific TCP-based protocol routes (not just IP) to assist network engineers with manual fault isolation of network application problems. PlexCrypt Added 2003-02-20 PlexCrypt protects documents and folders via PKI-based encryption using secured algorithms such as AES, Blowfish, CAST, DES, ElGamal, IDEA, IES, RC4, RC6, RSA, Rijndael, Serpent Skipjack, Twofish, etc. It allows users to encrypt multiple files and folders automatically. PlexCrypt allows users to digital sign documents and folders and use that signature to verify that original document has not been maliciously or accidently altered. It supports MD5WithRSAEncryption, SHA1WithRSA/ISO9796-2, MD2WithRSAEncryption, RIPEMD160WithRSAEncryption, SHA1WithRSAEncryption, RIPEMD160WithRSAEncryption, MD5WithRSA/ISO9796-2, RIPEMD160WithRSA/ISO9796-2, RIPEMD160WithRSA/ISO9796-2 algorithms for digital signatures. PlexCrypt also allows users to archive a set of files and folders in the ZIP format and extract them later. In addition, it allows users to create and manage digital certificates and key-pairs for encryption and digital signatures. Looper Event / Alert System Added 2003-02-18 Looper is a highly modularized application designed to simplify the event / alert model. Primarily used for Network Management, this application can be used to accomplish a variety of tasks related to logging and alerting such as listening for SNMP traps and logging to a file or sending notification to Netcool (a la "trapd probe"), reading a log file for alerts and sending notification via e-mail, parsing syslogs and sending notifications to Netcool (a la "syslog probe"), etc. Looper can also be used as an ad-hoc Netcool probe or Gateway. StatFreak Added 2003-02-11 StatFreak is a Perl script which reads eggdrop and mIRC logs and outputs an XHTML file containing statistical information. StatFreak was created to appease the hunger of statistics fanatics around the world. Recon Added 2003-02-04 Recon is a general SSL watchdog, checking for common, certificate-related errors in SSL-enabled services. Provide it a list of SSL services for which you are responsible, run it periodically, and Recon will warn you of impending certificate expirations, mismatched certificate names, and unavailable services. TinyMonitor Added 2003-01-28 TinyMonitor is written in Perl and was created out of pure necessity for a simple monitoring program that watched the actual content of returned pages rather than simply checking to see if the httpd service was running. It can be used for simple Web server monitoring (i.e., is it actually delivering content?) or to verify that a page is returning what you expect (i.e., a 200 rather than a 404). It is very small and designed to work through cron. Alerts are sent via email to a pager or SMS phone. BSM Psuedonymizer Added 2002-12-16 BSM Psuedonymizer pseudonymizes records from Solaris BSM audit trail files. Personal data such as user IDs, group IDs, etc. is replaced with pseudonyms so that the generated output doesn't reveal private information about the system's users, but still preserves a maximum of integrity and consistency.
