socklog
Added 2004-03-01
by Gerrit Pape
socklog cooperates with the daemontools package to create a small and secure replacement for syslogd. socklog supports system logging through Unix domain sockets (/dev/log) and UDP sockets (0.0.0.0:514) with the help of daemontools svscan, supervise, and multilog. socklog provides a different network logging concept, and also does log event notification. multilog has built in log file rotation based on file size, so there is no need for any cron jobs to rotate the logs. socklog is small, secure, and reliable.

Nast

by embyte
Nast is a packet sniffer and a LAN analyzer based on Libnet and Libpcap. It can sniff the packets on a network interface in normal mode or in promiscuous mode. It dumps the headers of packets and the payload in ASCII or ASCII-hex format. Various packet filters can be applied. The data sniffed can be saved in a separate file. As an analysis tool, it can check for other NICs on the network which are set in promiscuous mode, build a list of all hosts on a LAN, find a gateway, perform port scanning on a multiple hosts, catch daemon banners, follow the TCP data stream, reset a connection, and determine whether a link type is a hub or switch.

Stunnel
Added 2004-02-16
by Michal Trojnara,
The stunnel program is designed to work as an SSL encryption wrapper between remote client and local (inetd-startable) or remote server. It can be used to add SSL functionality to commonly used inetd daemons like POP2, POP3, and IMAP servers without any changes in the programs' code. It will negotiate an SSL connection using the OpenSSL or SSLeay libraries. It calls the underlying crypto libraries, so stunnel supports whatever cryptographic algorithms you compiled into your crypto package.
