It works with IPTABLES and is easy to use and configure. floppyfw Added 2003-12-12 floppyfw is a router and simple firewall on one single floppy. It uses Linux basic firewall capabilities and have a very simple packaging system. It is perfect for masquerading and securing networks on ADSL and cable lines using both static IP and DHCP. It has a simple installation, mostly only needed to edit one file on the floppy. DansGuardian Added 2003-12-05 DansGuardian is a Web content filtering proxy that uses Squid to do all the fetching. It filters using multiple methods including, but not limited to, phrase matching, file extension matching, MIME type matching, PICS filtering, and URL/domain blocking. It has the ability to switch off filtering by certain criteria including username, domain name, source IP, etc. The configurable logging produces a log in an easy to read format. It has the option to only log text-based pages, thus significantly reducing redundant information (such as every image on a page). Local Area Security Linux Added 2003-11-19 Local Area Security has released the 0.4 MAIN of their 'live CD' security toolkit which fits on a 185MB miniCD. With full Fluxbox desktop and over 250 security related tools encompassing pen testing, forensics, administration, monitoring, etc. Many additions and fixes have been made since the beta version. Along with the addition of the 'toram' boot option which allows it to be run entirely from RAM. SMB Domain Authentication Added 2003-10-22 SMBAuth is a tool that provides authentication with an SMB server (NT or Samba on Unix) through the commandline, Apache, Apache2, PHP, Jabber, Python, Perl, Ruby, Tcl, Guile, C, and Java. fauxident.py Added 2003-10-22 fauxident is a small Python script that will act as an extremely naive ident server, answering all ident requests with a consistent response (either ERROR or USERID). This can be advantageous on systems where running a true identd is unavailable, where it would be would be a security risk, or when masquerading firewalls are in use, where multiple machines are involved behind the firewall and running a proper ident system is not an option. iptables Added 2003-10-09 iptables is built on top of netfilter: the new packet alteration framework for Linux 2.4. JWall Added 2003-08-07 JWall is a Java-based application for graphically building and installing rules for one or more firewalls, local or remote. Dante Added 2003-07-31 Dante is a free implementation of the proxy protocols socks version 4, socks version 5 (rfc1928), and msproxy. It can be used as a firewall between networks.
