Long prison term for Lowe's wi-fi hacker
Kevin Poulsen, SecurityFocus 2004-12-16

A 21-year-old Michigan man was sentenced to nine years in federal prison Wednesday in federal court in Charlotte, North Carolina for his role in a failed scheme to steal credit card numbers from the Lowe's chain of home improvement stores by taking advantage of an unsecured wi-fi network at a store in suburban Detroit.

What about Lowe's? 2004-12-15

One would think that Lowe's would be held accountable for not securing their wireless network. It's not like these guys had to crack WEP to get this access. If I were one of Lowe's customers I would be "interested" to know if my credit card number was disclosed and what they are going to do about it. If they were housing something of value to you in their store and left the front door unlocked and were then robbed would you not be upset at them as much as the robbers?
