Long prison term for Lowe's wi-fi hacker
Kevin Poulsen, SecurityFocus 2004-12-16

A 21-year-old Michigan man was sentenced to nine years in federal prison Wednesday in federal court in Charlotte, North Carolina for his role in a failed scheme to steal credit card numbers from the Lowe's chain of home improvement stores by taking advantage of an unsecured wi-fi network at a store in suburban Detroit.

To the Lowe's idiot who got 108 month prison sentence:

dude i don't know or care about your criminal history, but your plea bargain was a robbery/rape. you were lucky to get the "assistance" departure for helping lowes, but that's only 2 points. what screwed you is you stupidly agreed to those damage estimates.

you need to fire your lawyer. hire a NEW LAWYER, and bring action to the court on basis of "ineffective assistance of council". as far as i know this is your only realistic path to appeals and challenging your own plea.

you can get those damage costs down into the thousands, and then you'll only be looking at dozens of months at the most, not 108. you may lose your weaslefsck "assistance" points for cooperation, but kid, the hurt of thos damage points FAR FAR outweigh the benefit from your assistance.

fire your lawyer. challenge this. get a new trial. withdrawl/challenge your own plea.

seriously, make the effort. this is years of your life.

you may be a petty thief bastard who makes the rest of us look bad (!) but for crissake this sentence IS NOT JUSTICE.
