Long prison term for Lowe's wi-fi hacker
Kevin Poulsen, SecurityFocus 2004-12-16

A 21-year-old Michigan man was sentenced to nine years in federal prison Wednesday in federal court in Charlotte, North Carolina for his role in a failed scheme to steal credit card numbers from the Lowe's chain of home improvement stores by taking advantage of an unsecured wi-fi network at a store in suburban Detroit.

It wasn't armed robbery, and what about the guy getting a midemeanor for checking his e-mail? This is more like someone using the atm inside a bank getting a misdemeanor because he knows the guys that ask the teller for money with no guns and the retarded teller hands the cash over. While the guys could take the money and use it, instead they leave it sitting on the counter debating over what to do and go take in a movie. While they are at the movie, the FBI comes in a sees the cash on the counter and charges them all. What a joke. I almost can't believe the penalties. Only in our legal system, could this be possible.
