Long prison term for Lowe's wi-fi hacker

A 21-year-old Michigan man was sentenced to nine years in federal prison Wednesday in federal court in Charlotte, North Carolina for his role in a failed scheme to steal credit card numbers from the Lowe's chain of home improvement stores by taking advantage of an unsecured wi-fi network at a store in suburban Detroit.

Didn't you hear? The new "rules" in this country are as followes.

It doesn't any longer matter what the crime is that you commit and how much damage you actually do. It just matters how much could have potentially been caused. Therefore, we are now busting people for hypothetical scenarios instead of what they actually did...
