A 21-year-old Michigan man was sentenced to nine years in federal prison Wednesday in federal court in Charlotte, North Carolina for his role in a failed scheme to steal credit card numbers from the Lowe's chain of home improvement stores by taking advantage of an unsecured wi-fi network at a store in suburban Detroit.

That's an interesting argument that if a door is unlocked, you should be able to "come on in". However, these guys did't just look around and leave. They monitored, hacked, altered files to establish a connection to another server and THEN captured credit cards. They were't just out there for everyone to see. Q: So, what do you do if someone comes in your unlocked house, sets up video cameras and then posts naked pictures of you on the net for profit? A: Give them 9 years in prison to think about it.
