Microsoft this week quietly fixed a security weakness in the configuration of the built-in firewall component of Windows XP.

SP2's firewall beats the *bleep* out of what they offered before...being nothing. While it is a messy solution the vast majority of users will have no clue it's there and it will provide some basic protection.

For those of us who actually know better, we can turn to IPTables or a hardware solution but we can't expect "Local User" to begin to grasp ACL's.

As for the delay in getting a patch out...It's Microsoft. Had they released a patch in October we would now be arguing about the patch released last week to the patch from October. It's the cost of doing business with Redmond.
