Yes, but 99% of people would have been completely oblivious to both the hole and the solution because open-source geniuses don't 'do' packages (the code, the pre-compiled binaries for popular systems and package managers, the DOCUMENTATION (yeah, I see the readme...) - so lets not pretend we're comparing like for like here... Microsoft, for all we hate them, are selling systems that normal people can use, and until there are realistic contenders (linux = NO, nearly there but not yet, OSX = fantastic, if you're a millionaire)then your bullet-proof open-source operatng systems dont mean shit to this 99%...
