For the sheer number of people depending on Microsoft systems everyday you would think that ensuring their security would not take as long as it does. Patches shouldn't take months to be released after vulnerability information is discovered.

I will say that the ease-of-use and number of utilities written for Windows is uncontended, but if Microsoft wants to stay on top they really need to find a way to plug their holes faster.

Overall the Beta for the Microsoft's anti-spyware program isn't that bad. It is a free tool that can remove a number of spyware programs that the other trustworthy free programs missed. It also missed a number that the other ones caught. If they are planning on putting the work into this project to make it decent then it isn't bad, unles they start charging for updates or leave out important features in the free version.

If they are planning on keeping up to date on not only their weaknesses, but also on combating ALL of the people that design programs that the users don't want, then this is a good thing.
