there are no moral rights per se
in the US.
In fact, where some works of copyright (music) are concerned, there is even a COMPULSORY copyright licensing system.
Reverse engineering is explicitly allowed by the DMCA,
and distributing your own material, however unseemly, is the authors prerogative.
Where exactly does TECMO think they have a chance? legal staying power. They have a fulltime staff of lawyers, who would just be sitting on their thumbs if they didn't have a project like this to work on.
