Kevin Poulsen, SecurityFocus 2005-02-09

In the first case of its kind, a California video game maker is suing an entire community of software tinkerers for reverse engineering and modifying Xbox games that they legally purchased.

You are full of it. All of the cases you site are cases of resale and distribution. If I make nude volleyballers and do several different things, sell the new program, distribute the hack for sale, display the hacked program for sale, use it to perform illegal activities, etc it might be illegal. These people are not doing this. They are modifying the game for their own use, and with no profit involved.

In your first example, this is like an author suing me for Highlighting his book, or writing in the margins. If I buy a Lead miniature and paint it, it would be the same thing. If I choose to make use of my game in this way its frankly none of the programmers business
