Kevin Poulsen, SecurityFocus 2005-02-09

Tecmo hasn't alienated this fan, buddy! While I can understand the argument everyone is putting out here, these games are the results of tons of hard work! For some hacks to take all that and change it, simply because they can is an insult to all of their work. I don't really care who wins this suit, but money for lawyers will probably win - tecmo has more - lots more. As for "changing it for my own personal use is legal" - it probably is, but as soon as these guys begin swapping the skins over the internet, it's no longer for their personal use. Tecmo knows that they could've made real $$$$$$$ if the beach volleyball honeys were naked, but they were going for a certain rating (not 'A') for the game! With the heat the gaming industry is under now, this move by these hackers (making their work public on the net) will only lead to the government changing the laws, to keep hackers from changing game code (especially to add more nudity or gore). Dumb.
