I'm a school network manager.

To be honest, and no disrespect to the students involved in this, I think they are probably overestimating their knowlege when they say they've got a handle on this. IMHO teenagers often believe that they know far more than they do on a lot of topics, I've seen kids who would I'm sure claim they know all about being safe on the Internet leak information like sieves when on a message board with a 'cute 17 yr old boy' who could of course have been anybody. A function of being young is a belief in your own invulnerability; when it comes down to it they 'talk the talk' but don't really 'walk the walk'. Sure, a lot are very clever and able, but many don't really assess the risks when it comes to the crunch. That's why we have to provide filtering for our internet connection....
