While we are here examining the issue... our kids are online chatting with sex offenders, findout how to make drugs in the basement, using your credit card to gamble, .... (they are also doing great positive things). Maybe we should all reread the article and see that the students reflect a less than boastful prowess with technology; repeatedly mentioning the value in adults, especially their parents, taking more time to talk with them and not down to them about safety issues and technology... something most of them do have far more experience and need to use in a society and peer structure that is vastly different that what we even imagine as adults. I appreciate their comments... and am saddened by most of the responses here. Beer and voting process hasn't changed muched across many generations... technology presents a different kind of stategy for success and on ongoing dialog with students and our children. Keep telling them no and paint them as ignorant and they will likely continue to be under-educated by peers that lack the ability to infuse maturity in thinking that comes with age... they will also assume we don't really care about them if we can't even take the time to talk and listen.
