I think that this article talks about a major problem we have in this society. The crux of the article is how parents are invaiding the privacy of the students. As was stated in another reply, the parents are RESPONSIBLE for the conduct and actions of the students. Parents are the ones that KNOW BEST what their kids need. Granted some parents are not the best parents ever created, but the ones to know BEST what a kid needs is that kid's parents. So often, as in this article, the parents are painted as stupid obstacles to the kids fulfillment of thier life goals. Kids should have NO expectation of privacy while they live under their parent's roof and their parents are responsible for the student's actions. One statement in the article by a student is that "there are some things my parents don't need to know". That is the focal point of the problem. There is NOTHING about a kid that the kid's parents don't need to know. We can go into a long discussion of parental abuse of that responsiblity, but the fact that some poor parents will abuse that priviledge in no way changes that fact that parents do have, and should have that priviledge.
