I think that lot of the people need to open their eyes a bit to what is going on around them.

Firstly, saying that parents have more "experience" than their children on the subjuct of the internet is incredibly naive. The internet has been in widespread circulation for less than 10 years and many children have the same experience if not more than their parents as they have been using it for the same amount of time. I admit that real life experience contributes to actions that you take on the internet however, this is not the be all and end all of common sense with regards to the internet.

Parents do need to keep an eye on what their children are doing on the internet and yes that is part of their responsibility for looking after their child. Although, if they see something they don't like they should talk to their child about it, research alternatives (if apllicable) and suggest ways to come to an agreement that doesn't excessively restrict usage of the internet. Parents do not always "Know best", they often think they do, but they don't (They suffer from the same thing as teenagers who think they know everything). The parents are not their children, they don't know what effects them in what ways.

Personally I am against censorship of any kind; including internet "filters", i believe that i am capable of deciding for myself what is "acceptable" and "appropriate". I am tech savvy and indeed i still have a lot to learn however i do not need to have my usage restricted in the name of "safety".

People in general need to learn that e-mail is in no way private, that if you keep posting your credit card details to web sites promising the earth but with domains like http://559fd9s.amerbay.ill.freewebs.com/submit.php then you will get your details stolen. Would you post your credit card and PIN stuck to the back of a postcard to someone you didn't know in Mexico?

Remember, the biggest security hole of them all is the one sitting at the keyboard, whether parent or child, the risk is the same and the result is the same. Learn together or not at all, Be safe or be in danger.
