I agree and disagree with what you are saying, yes we are reponsible for our children and yes we want to protec t them, but if you bring up your child to be responsible and to be repectful, then at age 16 as parents we do have to give them some privacy. 99 times out of 100, your teenager will probally come to you with everything that is going on in there lives anyway. Remember your child isn't you and you were once a teenager, so if you believe that your children don't deserve to have any privacy, what does that say about you when you were a teenager? As a parent we can not assume our children are doing something wrong or making bad choices. I believe that we can give our children their privacy and keep them safe at the same time. Just be involved, be apart of their lives, let them know you are interrested on whats going on with them. Guide them into being responsible and listen to their reasonings. Kids are pretty smart, you'll be suprised.
