WiPhishing hack risk warning
John Leyden, The Register 2005-04-20

You've heard of war driving and phishing but now there's yet another reason to wear a tin-foil hat every time you surf the net. "WiPhishing" (pronounced why phishing) involves covertly setting up a wireless enabled laptop or access point in order to get wireless-enabled laptops to associate with it as a prelude to hacking attacks.

Old news. This concept was discussed at Blackhat 2003 whereby attackers would be in a van in their victim's parking lot and broadcast themselves as an access point over a high gain antenna. The idea was, even if corporations have a no wifi policy, there are bound to be laptops that have builtin wifi turned on. Forcing these computers to associate to the malicious access point would then allow the attackers to use the laptop as a bridge if it was also connected to the internal LAN. That's where the real thread lies. And I believe they called it 'reverse war driving'. Not as catchy though ;-)
