I think that's very pessimistic. First of all, it will help IT admins who run Windows in a corporate environment to keep their workstation and notebook users secure. That's a huge benefit.

Secondly, true authoritative tips will have the effect of reducing media spin that often leads to wholly inaccurate stories being provided to the general public.

It will get a lot harder in general for people to provide unsound advice and blow an issue out of proportion, and it will make it easier for *every* user to see the facts... including what they can do to protect themselves. It *WILL* benefit Windows users of all types somewhat, although its biggest benefit by far remains to IT admins.

That said, don't forget about developers. If Microsoft can prevent developers from authoring insecure code (including its own), vulnerabilities may be stopped before the end user even knows about them. That is the ideal that all projects, open and closed source, should strive for.
