Of course fingerprints are much safe than credit cards and check cards with pin numbers (in the IT world referred to as smart cards and passwords). You can learn why at www.singlesignon.us
Have you ever realized how many people can watch you putting in your pin in the grocery store? In the security world it is called ?shoulder surfing?. Not to mention the security camera looking straight down on your fingers! Any person can steal your card and use your pin. Stealing your fingerprint is (nearly) impossible!
There are different versions of fingerprint sensors out there. Most of them in the IT world a capacitive or RF sensors and create a biometric template based on unique points as described in the article. Other optical sensors take a full image of your finger. This is the image you see on CSI being compared to the AFIS or IDENT database to find criminals. The difference is simple ? an optical scanner has a light source ? just like the scanner at home for your family pictures. The other one looks like a sensor (plain surface and no light). Normally optical sensors are only used by law enforcement (immigration and police, etc.) and I am on of the security professionals that do not understand, why BioPay would do such a thing? They will have to change, before the market takes off?
Anyway I am glad that this is happening and we can all buy our gas and chips for the night and don?t have to worry, that the wallet is in the other car!
