ARLINGTON, Virginia -- Insider attacks and industrial espionage could become more stealthy by hiding malicious code in the core system functions available in a motherboard's flash memory, researchers said on Wednesday at the Black Hat Federal conference.

Back in 1996, I had a difficult problem....I was running a home based PC repair company. I had purchased a DOS version 5 from a company which was a international distributor of clone computers, etc. The DOS was represented as Microsoft...but it turned out to be non-microsoft.
To make a long story short, 4 years later I was led to the knowledge that I was spreading a non-detectable virus/malicous code. No AV software EVER said I had a virus. Even the later generation scanners that were advertised to detect and resolve polymorphic viruses. One of the major AV companies tech support guys suggested a sequence of commands which would get rid of ANY VIRUS...according to him.
I tried it and found it to be ineffective in my case. Again, based on the info that came my way, this code made my customers computers go thru multiple symptoms...hardware failures and software problems. After about 3 months of locking up at a ever increasing frequency, the PC would need a motherboard replaced...then three months later a video board or network card...or hard drive, the symptoms seemed to vary depending the chipset of the particular board. I was told that IBM did not know what to do about this problem. The data on my hard drive ended up being overwritten by garbage on April 10 1996...and then 3 months later it did it again.....UGGGG! The end result was my business being destroyed...people assumed I wrote a virus to increase my business...they were wrong. I have been financially challenged ever since...I've even lost jobs just for talking about it. It's been a nightmare. It even burned the BIOS chip on my hard drive at the time....after the heads were seeking over and over (the PC was sitting at the DOS prompt)...So the longer you have it, the worse it gets. It made pc's seem to have a mind of it's own...as it evolved.
Based on the information I gained as a result of this experience, I discovered a process that is also...UNBELIEVABLE. This process works on every OS from Win 3.X to Win 2000 network server....and MAC.
My win 3.1 pc, which seemed to be a piece of
s it (a lemon) a unreliable, money sucking, piece of junk, turned into a reliable, rock solid, never failing, stable computer that I now trust more than a new PC. I still use it today for data processing, data base and spreadsheet. It currently doesn't have any lost allocation unit problems....ever. No truncated files, no lock ups, no problems....It's hard to believe even for me.
If I wasn't so strapped for cash...I might be persuaded to give it away....to help people...but I am still hurting financially...big time. I need to make money with it.
Anyone interested in paying me to resolve their problem...maybe a seminar arrangement, or a liscensing deal, because PC's are so cheap nowadays...and there are techs out there who will come out so cheap, etc....doing repairs doesn't make sense anymore....in most cases...people just buy new.
After this discovery, I look at things differently than I use to...and differently than 99% of the sys administrators and purchasing people. Here's the way I see it now...
If a new PC costs $500 and lasts 3 years. How much is my discovery worth if it makes your PC last 10 - 20 years. Lets say your PC lasts 15 years because of this process. 5 X $500 = $2500.
OR
If I can reduce your organization's cost of maintaining your computer equipment by say 50% and increase your productivity what's that worth?
Shoot...this process just might resolve the symptoms of ANY virus, close backdoors used by hackers, and whip these possible "Insider attacks and industrial espionage". Based on what I know about my process, I believe it will....
I am factory trained and certified by Apple, Compaq, Epson, IBM and Toshiba on desktops, laptops, dot matrix and laser printers....
I absolutely, positively guarantee I am not exagerating the positive results of this process. I need a financial shot in the arm in a big way...please help me help you. I have a running list of 50 common symptoms I have resolved with this process...Without formatting or replacing parts/computers. I've been testing/working on it for 10 years. It's a winner. I can be reached at (832)597-6310
Like some of the people replying to this article, I also had a problem which NOONE was able to resolve.
