Blue Security folds under spammer's wrath
Robert Lemos, SecurityFocus 2006-05-17

Israeli anti-spam startup Blue Security decided on Tuesday to shutter its aggressive anti-spam service, citing threats of further--and more malicious--attacks on its service and users.

"Pure and simple" if you don't know anything about the service. All Blue Security did was automate the process of complaining about each spam you get. One spam = ONE complaint on the advertized website (a complaint they are REQUIRED BY LAW to accept and respect). Why in the world should we not be allowed to submit ONE complaint for each spam we get? They even went beyond that -- before allowing ANY clients to submit complaints (even though they were already recieving illegal spam), they would *first* contact the spamvertized site and ask that Blue Frog members be removed. Only if the spam being sent didn't change in a few weeks, THEN users would start submitting complaints, one per spam each of them recieved.

Where does vigilantism come in here? That's like calling me a vigilante when I call companies to ask them to remove me from their physical mailing lists. Good lord, I'm tying up their phone operators! How could I attack their business like that? What a joke.
