Blue Security folds under spammer's wrath
Robert Lemos, SecurityFocus 2006-05-17

Israeli anti-spam startup Blue Security decided on Tuesday to shutter its aggressive anti-spam service, citing threats of further--and more malicious--attacks on its service and users.

WastedNeurons
Hmmmm.... comments such as this make my neurons start to burn. "bitch-slap" all the idiots, eh? While I appreciate the depth of your anger at the "idiots" who unknowingly allow themselves to become exploited and made part of the problem --- the statement itself reveals the issue - they are idiots - or more precise - ignorant. The simply just don't know any better. They neither understand even that there IS a problem nor that they are a part of it. Even for those that do have some level of a clue - they rarely understand the scope of the issue. Which leads then to being less than onerous about ensuring they are protected.

The burning neurons tonight lead me to wonder... what would the impact of requiring an "internet driver's license" have. Requiring anyone who uses the internet to actually pass some level of training before being allowed access - hmmmm.

Don't come back with the inevitable "That would be impossible because.." lines. This is just a wandering brain cell asking questions. I understand the restrictive complexities that make this a dream rather than a goal - but still... "what if?"! What if every user account on the web required validation against a database that validated the persons "education" level? The basic certificate would validate that the user had been trained in how to "secure and protect" their computer. Every new computer would require passing a basic skills test before it would allow configuration of networking components. If they fail the test - they don't get access.

As I said... just burning neurons for no apparent reason.
