The outing of a simple crash bug has caused public soul-searching in an industry that has historically been closed-mouthed about its vulnerabilities.

Reading this does make me laugh quite a lot. I find it hilarious that people contain such double standards. While exposing the SCADA to a network/internet does open up vulrabilites - by not opening it up does not make it bullet proof. If you have a serial port on a pc, and 2 clips you can effectively shut down a whole towns power via 2 lines of hex on a RS485 overwatch connection. Infrastructure needs to be brought kicking and screaming into the modern world - not due to being more advanced, but to ensure that new people into the industry are not in the same specturm as people who would have otherwise restored steam engines.

I am amazed at the comments about people scared of getting utilities "hacked" when they do their banking online and have their credit cards delivered by a postal service (which have been proved to not be reliable).
