MySpace teams to create sex-offender database
Robert Lemos, SecurityFocus 2006-12-05

Social networking site MySpace announced on Tuesday that the company has paired up with ID verification firm Sentinel Tech Holding to build a national database of convicted sex offenders, a technology the service hopes will enable it to keep predators out of its community.

This is the stupidest idea i've ever heard of. Most of the 550,000 have paid thier debt to society over a single offense and should have a chance to move on. If this new Sentinel Safe system(if it even works) flags a profile, some due process should be given...maybe it can be an initial flag to look deeper into the ages this person talks to and what they talk about...but to refuse service based solely on this...its stupid. Not to mention the most serious threats to kids out there are those offenders who have not yet been convicted. The recovery rate for those convicted is very high, depite what politicials and companies like Myspace would lead you to believe.
