U.S. calls for more organized cyber response

SAN FRANCISCO -- The United States' top cybersecurity official renewed calls on Thursday for companies to step up and help the federal government manage threats to critical infrastructure and the Internet.

Folks, you can't expect our governments to know what's good for us. That's called the "Nanny State" and it's widely and justly regarded as a bad idea. Likewise, police can't keep a city safe without participation from local citizens. And to do that, you need people who are savvy enough to notice threats and report them.

Yes, I pay taxes and I would expect better. However, our government is not filled with mind readers. They don't know what security needs we have and also what doesn't need to be protected. Asking for help isn't a bad thing. You should consider the fact that this is brand new for most legislators, police agencies, intelligence agencies, and critical infrastructure businesses.

It's called learning. Get over it.
