UPDATED Gary McKinnon, the alleged Pentagon hacker, has lost his appeal against extradition to the US on hacking charges.

They are just making an example out of Mr. McKinnon. I agree with the comment above about the men and woman who left their machines unsecured. That is what the US Government gets for putting ComSci graduates lacking the basic fundamentals of security in charge of the network and the hosts that are connected. I'm sure Slashdot and SecurityFocus is full of people who would jump at those jobs... Sounds to me like the real culprits are the "Systems Administrators" at these insecure facilities... Security isnt a joke and until the US Government and other private companies start taking it seriously boxes will continue to get owned. Its really as simple as that.
