Lawmakers worry over gov't network breaches 2007-07-06

I graduated in spring '05 with a master's degree in information security, paid for by a gov't scholarship. My obligation to the gov't is to work in an information security position for a federal agency for 2 years.

I have yet to work for the gov't, despite having sent out almost 100 applications to various agencies. Another student recently got released from her obligation despite having sent out over 200 applications. That's a free master's degree paid for by your taxes, and she's going to work for the private sector. Fantastic for her, but a ripoff for taxpayers.

The human resources to fix the gov't infosec ills are out there, so is the gov't just too lazy or inept or indifferent to hire young, qualified, caring security professionals?
