A recent federal district court ruling upholding seizures of electronic devices, such as laptops and iPhones, at the U.S. border has traveler- and civil-rights organizations worried that personal and sensitive data could be put at risk.

Truecrypt *will* help. It's just not perfect, and you have to be careful how and when you shut down. Specifically, don't hibernate, and don't wait until the last moment.

What I'd like to see is a discussion of whether travelers can be compelled to give up encryption keys under threat of penalty. If not, I yawn, scratch, and move on to other worries. If so, God help us.
