PLEASE. This (imho) is a rather poor argument. See if this type of argument gets you out of your next speeding ticket ("But officer, I didn't know it was 35. I didn't know radar detectors were illegal.") I may be somewhat desensitized as I'm a unix/lan admin, but if the machine you bought for your home use is so far over your head you can't properly secure it, TAKE IT BACK. Get a surfing terminal. Ditch that cable modem. If you are not competent enough to recognize all the facets of your setup, perhaps you really should either bone up on the technology you're using or NOT USE IT.
I am SO SICK of the masses crying foul about such issues when a few minutes of THEIR TIME could have prevented it in the first place.
