Hacker suspect to fight extradition to U.S.
Ted Bridis, The Associated Press 2002-11-13

Looks like the government was asleep at the wheel again. For many years now if you leave a system unprotected open to the internet its like a sitting duck. It's a wonder why they haven't had more problems. How stupid does a company or government have to be to run microsoft software on publicly accessable systems anyways?

And to have a 100 systems open like that, its just being careless. All it would have taken is one guy, just one security person to be checking thier networks making sure there was nothing vulnerable to attack. How much trouble is it for a large organization to hire one $8.00/hr techie to handle security.

Granted they have thousands of systems, but when security can even be handled effectively by a high school drop out there really is no excuse.

Or am I completely wrong about all of this and don't have a clue what I am talking about?
