Calling RemotelyAnywhere "insecure" is something I wouldn't do. RemotelyAnywhere is by far the most secure of its kind. It has several levels of protection that can be enabled or disabled by knowledgeable users. In its most open configuration it's about as secure as similar products at their best.

He was not scanning for RA installations, mind you. The Navy were - and there was an article about this somewhere about six months ago - to find out which computers might have been compromised. He gained administrative access (which you NEED, in order to install software like RA) in some other way.
